An alloy is a metallic element consisting of a mixture of two or more metals (or metallic elements with nonmetallic elements). Alloys are commonly used in jewelry, so it’s important to know what they’re made of!
Here are some examples of alloys:
• Silver combined with Copper (and sometimes other metals like Nickel or Zinc) produces Sterling Silver
• 18K Gold is an alloy of Gold, Copper, Silver and Zinc
• Copper mixed with Zinc becomes Brass
• 18K Rose Gold is made of Gold, Copper and Silver
